Tiger Cub

Last night David took Will to a local lake to attend the Cub Scout Growl! It was an event for new scouts and those interested in scouting. Will was hooked! He got to "shoot a real bow & arrow and a real BB gun!" He fished and did some other very boy things. They even had a closing circle, got a patch, and sang Bill Grogan's Goat! I love that song and have wonderful memories of my little brother belting it out on the way to the beach!

Anyway, he was hooked and thus he was signed up and official! He came home an official Tiger Cub Scout!!!!

Tonight it got even better - Jacob gave him his old neckerchief, cap and cub scout handbook! This boy is flying high. He is also not interested in taking off his gear! Too funny!

SB2W Drop Off

The van was packed and ready to go LAST night! We were on the road exactly at 8o'clock this morning! We stopped to eat a picnic lunch on the way.

We were still so early that we just had to stop for ice cream at the dairy bar - very similar to Kline's.

We got to camp (early!) just as the counselors were arriving at the gate to greet the campers! The girls are in cabins 4, 8 & 12! I helped Katherine get settled in her cabin - I'm way too old to be making top bunks - and helped her put her clothes away.

Then I helped Caroline with her bed, but not her clothes ("I think I've got it covered," she said!) and got to see inside Morgan's cabin! While I waited in the clinic line the kids explored the putt putt course and the swings and watched others go down the water side! We caught up with our other Cville friends and got a picture of all the local kids (sans Elizabeth who was greeting campers!)

We always drop our first letters in the mail box in Jennerstown on our way back home!

VBS - Crocodile Dock - Day 5

Day 5 was great. We followed our regular routine and then ended the day with celebration and pizza lunch! One thing we did not celebrate was that Morgan decided to get strep and needed to go to the doctor to get meds before leaving for camp in just 2 days! There are no new pictures for Friday. We left for the doctor just after all the kids arrived, and returned just in time to set up for lunch! I took video but it's taking so long to load I've lost patience. So here are two old pics - so old - they're from Tuesday! The kids played a game where one child tried to shoot another with silly string. The others tried to protect the target! The girl in white did such a great job protecting her target that Katherine never got close to him!

VBS - Crocodile Dock -Day 4

Day 4 brought us the Romans wrestling night outfits. On the Saturday night of each term the teams compete in a wrestling match. Everyone dresses up for this event. Romans are RED! Galatians are blue.

VBS - Crocodile Dock -Day 3

Day 3 brought a new twist. The SB2W girls decided to wear their ladies' night outfits. Everything pink and girly. These are outfits they wear when the boys leave camp on adventure trips. The girls' side of camp dresses for dinner! Note the awesome white gloves - they belonged to my grandmother.

VBS - Crocodile Dock - Day 1

VBS started today! Unlike in years past when we spent the day before VBS decorating, this year we came in early and made a few signs and a table cover. One of the reasons was that the theme didn't really inspire me. The other was that our painting club and work crew created the most beautiful VBS set. It was so good that nothing I could do in the registration area could ever compare!

So Caroline made the sign directing kids to the lower lobby.

Katherine made the sign for the registration table.

Here's the Crocodile Dock!

JOY

These three girls joined the church today! When the hymn started, "I Have Decided to Follow Jesus," they walked forward to profess their faith. There were tears and throats with lumps. After the service they got to greet church members who wanted to hug them and congratulate them on their decision. Their wonderful Bible Study teachers stood alongside them. It was a great day!

Ssssssssssssssssssssssss

This little guy found himself rescued from the skimmer. What treasures we find in the skimmer. Glad he wasn't a scary snake.

Does anyone remember a movie called Sssssssssss? It was about a scientist who studied snakes and eventually turned his daughter's boyfriend into a snake. She recognized him by his blue eyes! Really great stuff.

The Dread Pirate Will and His Crew

BEWARE!

The boys each collected a sword, an eye patch, a compass, and a spyglass at their secret hideout.
Sword fights ensued! Then they all got a tattoo to mark them as part of Will's pirate crew. Once bound to a common purpose, they found the treasure map, and started their hunt. They followed the clues until they found - a box full of gold!

After swimming in the Pirate's Cove, the young pirates refreshed themselves with cupcakes and lemonade.

Small Pieces & More Pool Fun!

Will got a really cool Play Mobil pirate island set (we love Play Mobil!) and some Legos (we love legos!) for his birthday. We spent the morning putting things together, and ended up with a helicopter.

Later, there was another swim lesson, another pool party (no pics allowed), and even more fun trying to get Caroline wet!

The Boy Turns Six!

On the date of his birth but before he turned six, the boy went to the doctor, the new real Dr. P. Pronounced healthy enough for someone who eats nothing but grains and dairy, we headed to Bodo's, where he could get that grain and dairy.

We came home to a package on the front step - and inside was this very cool and incredibly accurate shirt.

At the stroke of 3, the boy turned six and his swim lesson began!

Dinner of the birthday boy's choice was pancakes and pears, but we didn't have pears because he said he wouldn't eat them. After all, pears are not in the dairy or grain families.

After eating, there were a few presents! He was so excited to get a bike that he rode it through the kitchen and right down the hall!

Then there was cake!

Happy birthday, Will!
